Volunteer at Rancho La Patera

Support Rancho La Patera by becoming a volunteer.   Volunteer opportunities include becoming a Stow House tour guide, being a host in the Visitor Center, and guiding visitors through the ranch yard.  Volunteers also help with special programs and events.  Regular volunteer hours are weekends between 2:00 and 4:30.  Docents are scheduled monthly dependent upon their time commitments.  There are additional volunteer opportunities during the week.  All training and materials are provided.  Volunteer Training Workshops are offered regularly.  For information about volunteering, contact the Rancho La Patera office at 805-681-7216.

Tours
Docents greet the public and give hour-long tours through the historic Stow House.  Small group tours include local history and personal oral histories.  The Stow House is furnished with historic and period objects, enhancing the tours.  All training and materials are provided.  Tours are given Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 and 3:00, and by appointment.

School Tours
School and youth groups regularly visit Rancho La Patera.  Volunteers lead the students through Stow House with the theme of Continuity and Change.  All training and materials are provided. 

Pioneer Program
Pioneer Program is an interactive educational program geared for third graders.  Volunteers lead students through various stations at Rancho La Patera.  Stations include tours of Stow House, one-room school house activities, ranch science labs, wood working, and lawn games.  This program takes place midweek during the mornings. 

Book Store Host
Welcome visitors to Rancho La Patera in the Visitor Center & Museum Store. 

Community Service
Rancho La Patera welcomes student volunteers.  Local high school students can fulfill their community service requirements by giving tours, helping with programs, working in the office, and at special events.
